It has been used as a traditional remedy for digestive upsets, respiratory problems (asthma, bronchitis (cough etc) colds and flu as well as inflammation of the mouth and throat
Benefits: suited for acute bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract and bronchi. Oregano should be limited for acute conditions. The French aroma medical literature advises that the long term use of this oil, or generally oils with high phenol content, can lead to undesirable changes in liver metabolism.
Internal use in doses of around 1-2 drops is acceptable. Careful -this oil burns and needs to be absorbed on a charcoal pill or something similar that will release it slowly. Best when not used externally, but if necessary, use only on the soles of the feet.
Hazards: Drug interraction; inhibit blood clotting; embryotoxicity ; skin irritation (low risk); mucous membrane irritation (moderate risk).
Contraindications (all routes): Pregnancy, breastfeeding, caution for Asthma.
Cautions (dermal): hypersensitive, diseased or damaged skin, children under 2 years of age
Cautions (oral): Diabetic medication, anticoagulant medication, major surgery, peptic ulser, hemophilia, other bleeding disorder
